SEE THE GOOD IN ACTION

Meet Richelle

Richelle, owner of a local gift shop, tirelessly gives herself to pleasing her customers with the gift of chocolate and handmade treats. Richelle has made it a mission to partner with other local vendors to highlight their products through her baskets. She is so grateful for Greater Lafayette and wants to do her part for it to be knows as a giving community. Richelle recently did a campaign called “31 Days of Kindness,” where each day she gave a gift to someone who is a positive influence in the community. A strong believer, she gives all the glory to God for bringing people through the door at her shop.

Meet Katie

Katie was walking her kindergartner to school along with her 3 year old son. A woman with a car full of kids had been pulled over. Her car was being towed due to lack of insurance coverage. Katie overheard the officer trying to help the women and get the kids to school. Even though she had a busy day, Katie stopped and asked how she could help. Katie went home and got her car. She gave the older kids a ride to high school, took one of the woman and a small child home, and then drove the other woman to take her GED test (which she was running late for). Katie even gave her bus fare money so she could get home after taking the GED exam. Even though Katie's "schedule" was thrown off for the day, she knew helping was the right thing to do.

Meet Colin

Colin, a  student at West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School, had a friend and teammate who had gone through some really difficult things in his life, things no child sould ever have to face. He was saddened every time there was an event because he knew the friend's guardians just didn't have the money to help with activities. Colin found creative ways to pay for things and slip the kid some money so he could participate in the activities. He didn't want his friend to feel bad about a hand out and made sure he didn't know it was from him.

Meet Bob and Diane

Recently relocating to West Lafayette from the East Coast has been tough. My family and I are apart till next summer, and moving costs were more than expected. However, the welcoming efforts of Bob and Diane have made a major difference. They’ve welcomed me in every way, from supplying me with a bed until mine arrived, to giving me a welcoming gift basket. They continue to show kindness even in simple ways, like asking me how my family and I are doing. This couple has made this transition much more comfortable, and I just want to say “Thank you” to them.

Meet Susan

As a pastor recently relocating to West Lafayette from the East Coast, costs were more than expected. Consequently, after moving, buying food and necessities, etc., finances were pretty low. I told no one, anticipating my first paycheck and planning on “toughing it out” until then.

Without having any knowledge of my situation, Susan stopped by my office one day on her way to visit family out west. She gave me a check which covered my expenses until payday, making it clear I was not to worry about paying her back. I can’t even express my gratitude for her kindness! She certainly was Being the Good in my new hometown of Tippecanoe County!

Becky & Ryan's Story

We had 2 cars, one for each of us to get to work, then one afternoon an older man fell into a diabetic coma while driving and rammed into my car that was parked in front of our house. Both cars were totaled. We had paid cash for my car and honestly the payout from the insurance company was more than we expected but barely enough to put a down payment on another car. Besides that, we couldn't really afford payments on a second car. We were feeling a little stuck-not finding anything g reliable that we could afford.

Then Zach and Stephanie approached us with the idea of giving us their extra Saturn that they had just put 4 brand new tires on. There was some back and forth because we weren't sure we could accept such a huge gift and feel okay about it-but the Lord is good, gave us peace, and it's sitting in our driveway. We are so blessed and it's shown us God's provision through the body of Christ and been an example to us of being open-handed with all He provides!!!
